Celebrating One Year of Mamas Circle
A year ago, we wondered whether bringing mums together could make loneliness feel a little lighter. One year later, we're celebrating everything that happened when they said yes.
A year ago, I posted on Instagram about loneliness in motherhood.
Through my work as a psychologist, I'd become interested in the loneliness people can experience during major life transitions. I wondered whether motherhood, despite being surrounded by people, could sometimes feel unexpectedly lonely too.
The response to that post made me realise I wasn't the only person thinking about loneliness in motherhood. Different stories, different lives, but the same feeling of carrying parts of motherhood alone.
So instead of just talking about loneliness, I became curious about what would happen if we brought mums together?
On 11th September 2025, Mamas Circle was born.
We started small. Three mums came together to talk honestly about the unexpected loneliness they had experienced throughout motherhood.
At the end of that first session, I asked:
“What is one word or feeling you’re leaving with today?”
The difference between the beginning and end of that Circle suggested there was something powerful in bringing people together to talk honestly.
Over the following year, that one conversation has become many.
Together we've:
Welcomed more than 450 mums into the Mamas Circle community across the UK.
Facilitated nearly 20 Mamas Circle sessions.
Hosted a guest speaker and a community-led session.
Held focus groups to help shape the future of Mamas Circle.
Brought our community together in person in London.
Every time we meet, something special happens.
Women who have never met one another trust the space enough to tell the truth about motherhood and they recognise themselves in someone else's story. And for an hour or so, motherhood feels a little less lonely.
That has always been the heart of Mamas Circle.
Mamas Circle has continued to thrive because of every mum who has shown up, shared a story, listened without judgement, offered a word of encouragement or reminded another mum that she wasn't alone. This community continues to grow because of the relationships you've built with one another.
Reconnect with your body and mind as you escape the noise of everyday life.
